Electric Theatre Company (formerly known as The Northeast Theatre)
is the Mayor's pick this year to host a party celebrating the arts in Downtown
Scranton. This is the party of the year, a midsummer masquerade. Black and white
attire is required, but creative interpretation of black and white is
encouraged... anything from formal wear to black jeans and t-shirt. Prizes will
be given to the most creative takes on black and white. Gorgeous sequined and
feathered masks are provided each guest, and the party includes a fabulous
buffet of food and beverage by Vida Tapas Bar, live music by Trio Barocco and
Cuban Tres, clowns, buskers, acrobats, plus dance music by NEPA's top deejay,
Conor McGuigan, and more.
Who
Trio Barocco: a classical trio of violin, cello, and flute, the group will
provide walk-in music for the event. The trio is based in Tunkhannock.
Cuban Tres: these three young musicians from Cuba will get your blood stirring with their evocative renditions of original, folk, and tradition Cuban music.
Zuppa del Giorno: the Theatre's American commedia troupe just returned from performing in Italy, and will liven the evening with shenanigans, acro-balance; and the Brothers Marx will make an exclusive appearance
Conor McGuigan: a member of the Resident Artistic Company, Conor is the founder of Test Pattern Gallery and the region's best deejay, bringing parties alive with an eclectic mix of the world's most danceable tunes.
Vida, a Tapas Bar: is the hot place on Washington Avenue to enjoy the exotic and the familiar in Spanish inspired cuisine. They provide the interactive buffet of gloriously unusual and delicious fare.

Sparks & Feathers, Party of the Year
Each year, the Mayor and his wife Donna choose a not for profit arts group and
host a party. This year, in part because The Northeast Theatre is changing its
name, they chose Electric Theatre Company. And the folks at the Theatre have
taken the Mayor's choice as both as an occasion to honor him, and a challenge to
themselves; they aim to make it the best party Scranton has seen in years. The
name of the event is Sparks & Feathers! and it is described as A Midsummer
Masquerade. Those attending are required to dress in black and white, but are
thereby encouraged to interpret that dress code in whatever way their whim may
take them, from donning formal wear to black jeans and t-shirts. (Prizes will be
awarded to the most imaginative interpretations.) Each partier will receive an
elaborate mask covered with sequins and feathers to help move the evening into
high gear. There will be food, entertainment, and dancing. The party starts at
six on July 19th at the Electric Theatre Company, 326 Spruce Street on the
second floor in Downtown Scranton.
Vida Tapas Bar and Lounge on Washington Avenue is providing the buffet and
beverage. Walk-in music will set an elegant tone with Trio Barocco, an ensemble
of violin, cello, and flute from Tunkhannock. The music will get hot with Cuban
Tres as these three young women from the beautiful isle play lute, piano,
clarinet, and guitar to accompany their singing of Cuban songs, traditional,
folk, and original. The music continues as Conor McGuigan, NEPA's champion
deejay, flips vinyls in an eclectic mix of thoroughly danceable tunes.
Throughout the evening, red nose clowns, acrobats, buskers, and zannies keep the
party full of surprise.

Would you like to add your show dates to Curtains Up?
Submit your advertisement INFORMATION (flyer or poster) containing the name of your Theater Group, the name of the show and your director.
Include the Date: Time, Location, & Ticket Prices no later than two weeks before your opening night. (I will copy/paste your info, so if it's in error it will be yours, not mine.)

You are also welcomed to merely send a basic announcement and I'll put that up along with a LINK to your website for further details.
This is a FREE service and is done when I have the time to do it, so I cannot make guarantees as to having your announcements up in time. Accuracy of show dates and times will be copy/pasted, so it is up to you to get them right!
All professional and non-professional theater groups on my Playgroups’ list are welcomed to advertise. http://www.stagewhispers.net/playgroups.asp If you are NOT on that page and would like to be, and if your group lies within 2 1/2 hours of Binghamton by car, write to me and send me your info!
Shows that share the same dates will be listed alphabetically by Theater Group, excepting the word “the”.
“The Brighton Players”, for example, would go before “Salisbury Community Theater”.
EXCEPTION
If shows share ‘split’ dates, the show that goes up first, will be listed ahead of the other.
