LORRAINE BATES is a big city girl who loves her country roots. That's how Texas native Lorraine Bates describes herself. Inspired by a young man's serenade, she began singing in El Paso, where she found her own voice. Her family travels took her to many states: from Oregon to Alabama, from Illinois to West Virginia. The Big Apple was the big lure for Lorraine, and now she is making a home and a name for herself in Vestal, NY.

With a natural gift for music, Lorraine taught herself how to play guitar, banjo and mandolin, then studied voice and piano. She began to write music early in her singing career, grooming her talents with workshops from the National Academy of Popular Music and Songwriters' Guild. Her classes led to many collaborations and styles of writing such as jazz, blues, country and pop.

In performance, Lorraine captivates the audience with energy, warmth and enthusiasm. Audiences in clubs and colleges love her debut cassette tape, "A Texas Gal." Another audience is equally important to Lorraine. Committed to lifting the human spirit with song, Lorraine performs for hospitalized AIDS patients with the Hearts and Voices program, and for homeless children and teenagers at the Covenant House.

Lorraine takes pride in being an active member in many professional associations: Women In Music, BMI, The National Academy of Popular Music, Songwriters' Guild and The Nashville Songwriters Association International of New York.
